What is a Personal Licence

What is a Personal Licence?

A Personal Licence is an official authorisation granted to an individual that allows them to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol in licensed premises.

  • In Scotland, it is required if you want to be named as the Designated Premises Manager (DPM).
  • In England & Wales, it is required if you want to be the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS).

The licence shows that you understand alcohol licensing laws and are trained to ensure sales are carried out safely and responsibly.

Unlike a premises licence (which applies to the location), a personal licence is tied to you as an individual, making you more employable and able to take on senior responsibility in pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, and retail settings.
